152813 - Elastic-Plastic Seismic Response Analysis of Piping System Considering Damage to Piping Support
Abstract:
In general, the piping support is modeled as a linear spring element without considering the elastic-plastic characteristics of the piping support in time history earthquake response analysis of piping systems. This is because the purpose is to prevent ductile rupture and plastic collapse of the piping system by primary stress evaluation under earthquake motions assumed in design conditions. On the other hand, in fragility evaluation, it is necessary to assume realistic failure modes. Therefore, it is desirable to evaluate the seismic response of the piping system taking into account the elastic-plastic characteristics of the entire piping system including the pipe support structure. The authors developed a nonlinear spring element for the elastic-plastic characteristics of the piping support. The nonlinear spring element is useful for fragility assessment that require multiple analyses because the analysis time is shorter than when using solid elements or shell elements. In this study, the nonlinear spring element was used to perform an elastic-plastic response analysis of a piping system that considered damage to the piping support. In addition, the analysis results were compared with those using a conventional analysis model to verify how the elastic-plastic characteristics of the piping support affect the seismic response of the entire piping system.
