106131 - Failure Behavior and Influencing Factors of the Sealing Structure for Type ⅳ Hydrogen Cylinders
Composite overwrapped pressure cylinders with plastic liner (type Ⅳ) for high pressure hydrogen storage have drawn attention all over the world due to their excellent advantages in low cost, light weight, corrosion resistance and fatigue resistance. The sealing structure in the bottle mouth of the hydrogen cylinder is a kind of dissimilar materials sealing between metal and plastic materials which has a significant influence on the safety performance and fatigue life of Type Ⅳ cylinders. In this paper, the sealing performance of the bottle mouth structure was investigated experimentally by the tests a kind of type of Ⅳ hydrogen cylinder with the working pressure of 70 MPa, and the failure behavior and mechanism of the sealing structure was explored. Besides, a finite element(FE) model for the bottle mouth sealing structure considering the deformation compatibility of the cylinder was established by using ABAQUS. Based on the FE model, the influence of the hardness of rubber O-ring, the mechanical properties of plastic liner and the working temperature variation on the properties of the bottle mouth sealing structure were investigated. The results of this work can provide guidance for the design and optimization of the sealing structure for composite overwrapped pressure cylinder with plastic liner for hydrogen.

Presenting Author Biography: Jiahui Tao received the Bachelor degree in process equipment and control engineering in 2014 and a Ph.D. degree in fluid machinery and engineering in 2020 from Nanjing Tech University, China. He currently works as an associate research fellow at National Engineering & Technical Research Center on Pressure Vessels and Piping Safety, Hefei General Machinery Research Institute Co., Ltd., Hefei, China. His current research interests include the fluid sealing and measurement, hydrogen storage with high pressure, and mechanical behavior and microstructure evolution of metals.
