84467 - On the Elastoplastic Dynamic Response of Steel Belt Staggered Multi-Layer Cylindrical Shell Subjected to External Blast Loading
Abstract: The helically cross-winding flat steel belt staggered multi-layer cylindrical shell is the preferred structure over than monobloc cylindrical shell. Therefore, the multi-layer cylindrical shells have a number of applications, such as high-pressure storage vessels, hydrogen pressure equipment and hydrogen refueling stations. However, it is under the threat of external blast loads from accidental hydrogen leaks and explosions. So it is beneficial to analyze the impact of adjacent pressure vessels and equipment leaks or explosions on multi-layer cylindrical shells. In this paper, a detailed finite element model is established based on LS-DYNA. Through studying the LS-DYNA simulation model, analyze the elastoplastic response of such multi-layer cylindrical shell subjected to external blast loads of different TNT equivalency weights. The thermo-viscoplastic constitutive model and fluid-structure coupling approach are incorporated in the modeling. The radial displacement and vibration histories, strain responses of different layers are analyzed to demonstrate the potential deformation and failure modes of the helically multi-layer shell structure. Over and above that, the maximum strain at different locations of the shell structure are obtained and discussed. The analysis results would be helpful to predict and evaluate the integrity of such multi-layer cylindrical structure that undertakes the risk of external hydrogen blast loading.
